Program Summary
The Center for Urban Science + Progress' (CUSP) Foundations program provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the interdisciplinary field of urban informatics. This program combines technical skills, ethical decision-making, and effective communication to address complex urban challenges.
Outcomes/Objectives
Apply theoretical knowledge to hands-on data exploration and problem-solving through immersive activities.
Gain proficiency in advanced data analytics, machine learning, and urban science technologies to solve real-world challenges.
Collaborate on industry-sourced and globally-partnered challenges for practical and impactful learning experiences.
Conduct end-to-end analyses of urban datasets, including cleaning, processing, analyzing, and visualizing data in Jupyter Notebooks.
Develop strong Python programming skills to address urban challenges and effectively communicate insights.
Identify and address ethical concerns in data collection, management, sharing, and analysis.
Build professional networks and develop teamwork skills through connections with peers, mentors, researchers, and industry professionals.
Strengthen academic writing and communication skills for professional and scholarly purposes.
Enhance public speaking, leadership, and consulting skills while creating resume- and portfolio-ready deliverables.
