CUSP Foundations Badge

Program Summary

The Center for Urban Science + Progress' (CUSP) Foundations program provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the interdisciplinary field of urban informatics. This program combines technical skills, ethical decision-making, and effective communication to address complex urban challenges.

Outcomes/Objectives

  • Apply theoretical knowledge to hands-on data exploration and problem-solving through immersive activities.

  • Gain proficiency in advanced data analytics, machine learning, and urban science technologies to solve real-world challenges.

  • Collaborate on industry-sourced and globally-partnered challenges for practical and impactful learning experiences.

  • Conduct end-to-end analyses of urban datasets, including cleaning, processing, analyzing, and visualizing data in Jupyter Notebooks.

  • Develop strong Python programming skills to address urban challenges and effectively communicate insights.

  • Identify and address ethical concerns in data collection, management, sharing, and analysis.

  • Build professional networks and develop teamwork skills through connections with peers, mentors, researchers, and industry professionals.

  • Strengthen academic writing and communication skills for professional and scholarly purposes.

  • Enhance public speaking, leadership, and consulting skills while creating resume- and portfolio-ready deliverables.
