Program Summary

Data Dive is an immersive, experiential program offered by the Center for Urban Science + Progress (CUSP). Students engage directly with real-world urban challenges by exploring dynamic datasets and developing innovative solutions. This unique program enables master's students to bridge theory and practice, collaborating with peers, industry leaders, and global institutions like King’s College London to address the pressing issues of today’s smart cities.

Outcomes/Objectives

Students will:

• Apply theoretical knowledge to hands-on data exploration and problem-solving through immersive activities like Data Dives and Hackathons.

• Gain proficiency in advanced data analytics, machine learning, and urban science technologies by solving real-world challenges.

• Collaborate on challenges sourced from industry and global partners to ensure practical, impactful learning experiences.

• Build lasting connections with peers, mentors, researchers, and industry professionals while developing essential teamwork skills.

• Strengthen public speaking, leadership, and consulting skills while creating deliverables to showcase in resumes and portfolios.

Earning Requirements

Students collaborate with industry and academic partners during this 5-day immersion program to solve real-world urban data science problems. Deliverables may include detailed data analyses, machine learning models, presentations, or policy recommendations. Past collaborations include partnerships with global leaders in smart cities, such as King’s College London, tackling challenges like air quality’s impact on mental health.
